Hi everyone,

Just a brief update on our journeys over the last week and a half. From Orkney we ventured south to the 12th century ruins of Urquhart Castle on Loch Ness, which was amazing. From there we ventured along the very scenic route to the Isle of Skye, passing Eilean Donan Castle, a fully furnished private abode that has been owned by the family for 700 years!

After a brief stopover in Edinburgh, we said goodbye to Scotland after almost 5 months and headed south to Nottingham (the county of Robin Hood). There, we participated in a medieval banquet and clad ourselves in the fine outfits of the time (12th century). We danced, ate a 4 course meal and were thoroughly entertained with a jester, minstrels and falconer (person who hunts with birds of prey) the whole night through. A little drunk too. Dame, anyway....

Our next visit was to Stonehenge. Another stone-age memorial dating back 4,000 years, it looks amazing during the sunset. Some of history's explanations for the hanging stones are religious, mystical and even extra-terrestrial. The archaeological view is that the stones were hauled over 250 miles from west Wales, each stone weighing approximately 4 elephants!!!??? Our favourite story is the one where the wizard Merlin used his magic to carry the stones from Ireland, where they originally stood as a henge. The father of King Arthur is rumored to be buried in the circle.

Until next time,

Lina and Dame.
