Had I know that arriving @ Bastianos in Lembeh after a grueling 26-hour flight with a 6 hr lay over would only to be topped by my departure, I would have been willing to pump out some extra bucks for another place. When we arrived we were flooded with information and forms. I nicely mentioned @ least three times that we would not remember most of the information and would appreciate getting a room and resting for a few hours. The information continued on. The end result was missing a few dives that we wanted to do.
The following will be a review submitted to various travel blogs in hopes a few won't be caught in the same mistake that I made.
I think I caught this dive resort on a bad week. Most of the reviews i found are really great. Also, a few people I dove with in Yap Dec 2009 recommended this dive resort so I booked 5 nights with them to start my great Indonesia dive trip. I am understanding that a/c doesn't always work and that other things might not be perfect. The dive operation was great with non-stop wonders. The loading area was always filled with fumes of the outboards - something that just can't be fixed. I am still suffering from the ill affects. Roaches in the bathroom are common but rats among the coffee cups that people were using was totally not so good. Also the eating tables had droppings from whatever. Most of the clients were returning clients so I gather they have been pleased with this operation. The price was right and the rooms had a great view with all of the chatter from the workers down on the water. All of the employees where polite and hard working. In the future I will do some extra homework on places to stay when I am told, "This is a great place to stay".
As far as the diving, "it is for the very seasoned diver". The creatures where so much fun to watch. Muck diving @ it’s best. Finding 4 in one dive was the average. I know my first two dives where loaded and I was told they were a bit below average dives. Here are a few of the many creatures I was fortunate to see in Lembeh. Once I can locate a guide in English, I will put some names with the faces.
