Woke up at 05:00 this morning due to the alarm clock of the Vietnamese couple sleeping below waking everyone accept them! The aircon was on all night so it was pretty cold. Definitely some work on this train for Chillout! People aren't allowed to smoke on the train so they smoke out of the windows in the corridor. Right below our air vent. Throughout our entire trip the cabin stunk of cigarette smoke. It's how I would imagine being forced to chain smoke.
During the night a little visitor popped to see Chris, Connie the cockroach. Im so glad he kept this visitor to himself otherwise I'm sure i'd have thrown myself off the train. We were glad when the journey was over & happy knowing we had a nice 4* hotel booked for 2 nights (Novotel, Nha Trang). At around 08:30 we got off the train & jumped in a taxi, 5 minutes later were at our hotel & instantly impressed
After freshening up we decided to go for a walk & get something to eat, which was a jacket potato in hope that it would settle our stomachs. We then hired a scooter to take a visit to Vinpearl Island which we can see from our hotel room. The weather was really good, around 30'c & not a cloud insight, however we didn't just want to sit on a beach all day as we still felt a bit dodgy.
To get there we had take a cable car over the sea. It cost around €16 each for the journey & entry to the island. Here they have a waterpark, amusement park, beaches, an aquarium & a few water shows. The views on the island were amazing, its very beautiful & the park is well maintained. We got changed into our swimwear and spent some time in the Waterpark. Still feeling slightly off we decided to have a walk about & visit the aquarium. It was better than we expected.
We then went on the Alpine coaster, which can only be described as a toboggan with amazing views
After driving back to the hotel it was clear that today was Chris's turn to be ill. He felt exactly how I had felt the previous day, sickly & drained. We agreed it would be best to take advantage of the nice room & stay in watching tele & relaxing as the past week had been hectic with travelling & sightseeing. Chris slept whilst i had a nosey at the room service menu as my appetite had properly returned after almost 3days. Caesar salad and margarita pizza room service was the answer to my tummys' grumble.
Relax time now, lets hope we are both 100% for tomorrow. Nighty night x
Woke up today feeling fresh as a daisy
With our stomachs full we headed out for a road trip on the scooter. Nha Trang is such a nice resort. Really popular with the Russians as well. We went off towards the mountains & got to see some truly amazing views. After travelling in one direction (no band pun meant!) we decided that the bike we were on didn't look reliable enough to risk going any further so we decided to make our way back.
On our way to the mountains Lisa spotted a big shopping Mall (surprise), so on the way back we stopped to have a little nosy. It was the most westernised Asian shop we'd been in since arriving. Everything in there was real (a rarity) & it was reflected in the price. As it was right amongst all the big hotels I guess it's what's to be expected. We grabbed a quick bite to eat in the form of a nice little KFC (the magical 'M' was considered but there aren't any in Vietnam) then started heading back towards the bike hire guy, Mr Meow
On the same road as we hired the bike was a little place called Crazy Kym's Spa & Gym. For less than $5 Lisa had a pedicure done then it was off back to the hotel for a couple of hours to use the gym, sauna & steam room.
We got on the beach for about 14:30. Our hotel had a private beach area, which was quite a nice touch. The sunbeds were more comfortable than the train we travelled in & you could even have room service if you wanted. We stayed there until about 16:00 then headed back to the room to get ready for dinner/tea.
On our little jaunt around town earlier in the day on the bike we had seen quite a few nice restaurants near to where we were staying. It was such a shame we were too ill to eat out the night before because there were so many to choose from. Still a bit wary of the local cuisine we decided on an Indian curry house called Omars. The food was really good & for both of us to eat it came to less than $8.
With our coach journey booked to Da Lat for the following day we headed back to the hotel knowing that another good night's sleep was in order as we have canyoning to do in 2 days & we want to be fresh for that.
