So a co-worker (Angela) and I had to go make a site visit in Collge Station, TX for work. Though it wasn't a vacation, it did feel like a trip to a foreign land (College Station is home to Texas A&M University; aggieland always feels like a strange alternate, if not more nauseating, universe for those of us who graduated from the University of Texas and Texas Tech, like Angela and myself.) So after we finished our actual work, we had to figure out what to do for lunch. The only reason we were excited to go to Collge Station was that it gave us the opportunity to go to Hullabaloo's, which was featured on The Food Network's show: Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives (if it's on the Food Network, it has to be good) but for some reason we instead decided to try another place, Cafe Excel, reccomended by one of our co-workers.
So we drive, confused and lost, around College Station looking for Cafe Excel, and in the process we accidently drive by Kyle Field on the A&M campus. After we finished dry heaving, we dedided to get as far away from A&M as possible and go eat at Hullabaloo's since it is located outside of town. It was definately the best decision. We got to eat in a vintage 1940's diner (it was moved all the way from New York. You can read more about the history
here. Though I am a health nut, I will go out on a limb once in a while and live it up. I ended up having the mexican burger, which consisted of a beef patty sandwiched between 2 tortillas and smothered with beans and green chile sauce. Though the chile wasn't hot at all, it tasted very good.
Angela had the meatball sub, which she said was delicious. We almost ended up getting breakfast; some other patrons in the diner ordered fabulous looking pancakes and french toast, but we went with specialties featured on the food network. As if we didn't eat enough fat and calories, we finshed the meal with a strawberry shake, which was the most fan-damn-tastic shake I have had! Super yum! I definately reccomend Hullabaloo's if you're looking for fabulous diner food. It was an excellent way to spend a Friday at work.
