I fly to Cairo in about 18hrs, and as you may have been astute enough to realise, the "packed" means that I am in fact ahead of my usual curve. Everything that one requires to cycle across Africa (plus or minus a few no-doubt crucial items I hasten to add) has been rolled up into infitesmally small bundles, and then further reduced in size with the use ironclad compression sacks, as well as waterproof sea-to-summit dry sacks (brilliant idea courtesy of Jason Hill, Anchorage, AK).

The "wondering" applies to a few things...The first is about the brilliant game that my assisting mates decided we should play yesterday where, while i was otherwise engaged in Skyping with an excellent TDA source, they each hid an item of importance halfway through the packing... The gamesmanship of course being that I cannot ask what or where until the first day of the ride.

The second is whether or not the chinese jigsaw I created of my super-duper collapsable bike, can be re-jigged into a rigid ridable frame out of the 12 cubic inches (sorry, i swore of US terms...) of petit bike box I am using to transport it in, somewhat like a P&O Smith beach tent,if you know what I mean. Thanks to Peter for helping dismantle it - where did you put that saddle??

The third is whether or not the ingenuity of my maintenance saving idea to shave my hair down to the skin of my very white and sun-free scalp will result in some form of third degree blistering, or merely that all future visas will be rejected as I now no longer look like my passport photos taken only days ago! Bring on the dubious backpacker's Buff headgear I say (lucky i am carrying spare), hope its a hit in the sudanese embassy.

And finally, how I managed to end up less than a day from travelling to Africa to start on such an incredible adventure, as attested to by my confused Facebook status. Luckily I have every faith in the ability of time, mostly to slip by me un-noticed, but also to reveal all answers about my concerns, feelings, appearance, and definitely, if I have to bare-pole the first few days of the tour.
