Where I stayed
Clare's wonderful pizza oven was inaugurated and we dined finely. Alex shaped an oar from sweet chestnut to pull out the pizzas. A wonderful experience. The pizzas were fantastic, and the thermometer in the oven showed that the temperature was about a hundred degrees off at all times. Put a door on the front and it'll bake bread too. Maybe with a bit more control.
So I've been having to delve into my French vocab a few times and was very pleased to watch the opening England match in the rugby world cup in a French bar. We watched the French game and cheered on France as the locals sipped coffee or beer - it was 8am. Then afterwards we asked to switch over to watch the dismal performance against Argentina although we won. I couldn't understand a thing the old man was saying to me on the table near us who was trying to discuss strategy etc, but we both grasped the venomicity with which another chap was cheering against England! A few days later the man arrived to fix the internet and we were on our own. I did enough French to point him to the wiring bits, then under pressure I lost all capability as he started asking me for 149 Euros. Turns out I did a good thing refusing to sign as he was trying to recruit for a service contract! I hadn't worked out what he was saying but I didn't want to put my name to paper with small print akin to a double glazing order form.
Just as we were leaving, we met Marc and Amiee who are walking from western France to Georgia (near Russia) because they want to avoid flying. They left us a spoon blank to continue carving and we've helped lighten their load in the packs. You can follow their blog just started at freedombyfoot.blogspot.com
And there's www.ecovallee.com for the yurt holiday rental and if you're interested the blog from the folks here is http://thedevolutionary.blogspot.com/
