Final  preparations are under way for me (Alex) to travel to France to join her (Laura) for more farmyard and yurt fun. Laura headed over to France at the end of May and I stayed behind to build muscles in the marquee business.

So last minute preparations? Avid readers of the blog may be aware that we had an odd engine noise develop and when in Italy we took advice about possible causes. We were told that if it was the worst scenario, we could still get back to Britain but keep it slow to avoid additional damage. Which we did. 1500miles at 45mph is a slow journey but being stuck behind snow ploughs in December in the Alps did the speed limiting for us. When we got back, a good man and excellent mechanic had a look and showed us that it was a very minor issue of a leaky exhaust manifold. I stripped it back, inserted a gasket in the joint and put it back together. Squealing noise eliminated but then it sounded like a full on exhaust leak! The last minute preparations have included to re-fix the leak by taking the gasket out, turning it end to end and refitting it the right way round! Silly me! Brian sounds great again!

I'm off to the Lake District for a week of bushcrafting with teenagers. This could be an experience! And the weather forecast is for "some showers interspersed with rain". So wellies and waterproofs are a must. And then to France from where Laura has reported that it's been lovely weather until August. I'll be in for another soaking when I get there!
