One fisherman on the way over the dunes to the beach struck up a "conversation" with me. We chatted about the weather. He thought it was bad. I was wearing shorts. Actions speak louder than words, so I think I conversed fluently!
The lady in the local padaria (bakery) helped Laura with her Portuguese and Laura came away with bread, croissant nada (plain) and croissant chocolate. They were the best bread and croissants ever.
