We had a few days to play with before we needed to be in Breckenridge, CO, so we decided to vising Flaming Gorge NRA and Ashley NF (2 days).  Friends of ours said that Flaming Gorge NRA was awesome and so we went.  Disappointment could not be found.  It was an amazing place.  Also, the temperature was a little cooler from Salt Lake City.  Our campsite was in Ashley NF among aspen trees.  There was one deer that walked near our site each morning and evening.

One portion of Flaming Gorge NRA is the Sheep Rock Geological Loop.  I highly recommend everyone drive the loop.  Besides being a pretty drive, you have the chance to see bighorn sheep and interesting rock formations.

Day 44 - Leaving UT Family, Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area - August 3, 2008 - Sunday

I got up and went to church with Sarah, Nathan, and their 3 boys.  They are Mormon and so the service was different from what I am used to.  It was the first Sunday of the month, so it was Testimony Sunday.  Anyone who wanted would go to the podium and tell the congregation about how the Lord is working in their lives.  It was interesting.  Good idea.  We also had communion.  I asked Sarah if it was OK for me to have communion.  She said "yes."  First the "alter boys" passed out the bread pieces, then water in tiny cups.  I wonder why water and not juice?  They called the service a meeting.

About 2pm we packed up, said goodbyes, and headed to Flaming Gorge NRA.  It was a pretty drive.

Day 45 - Flaming Gorge NRA - August 4, 2008 - Monday

Stopped at the Visitor Center.  Found hiking trails.  Did part of the Rim Trail.  Nice views of the gorge.  Then we drove the Sheep Creek Canyon Geological Loop.  We saw very interesting rock formations and layers, and a few bighorn sheep.  First time for the sheep!

Then we drove on to the dam.  Hoping to take a tour, but just missed it.

Had a campfire.  Nice to have one again, it has been a while.  Hooray for wood left at the campsite by previous occupants!
