I've just consumed a thick, amazing steak which was exceedingly cheap and am now drinking Costa Rican coffee which is one of the things Costa Rica is famous for so life, basically, isn't bad. After a couple of days at the villa at Playa Panama, Jennah and I have moved to the Villas Sol at Playa Hermosa which is more of a resort with a hotel attached and more security. There's no dvd player or direct tv, but it certainly isn't shabby and the view is utterly incredible. We've kept the keys to the other villa though (which is more private and not within a hotel) so we can use it whenever we want. The presence of security at Villas Sol though is great for girls alone (and I'll be there all by myself at either end of the Cuba trip as well) but we had trouble sorting out the key situation and have just escaped for a while to let house-keeping sort it out as it's been in the same state as when the last guests left.

Today is also the first day I've felt well - I've been fighting off a bug from the Boston winter and went to bed, embarassingly enough, at 7 last night. But Jennah's friend Tina doesn't arrive until tomorrow so at least I'll be rested for some girls' nights out. Jay's also booked a ticket to come down for a couple of days next weekend which will be lovely, albeit brief. Although he's expressed concern about me travelling to Cuba alone, but Lonely Planet has assured me that women travellers are pretty safe there. Mia may or may not be joining me so I am feeling a little nervous now about going on my own, but I'm sure once I get there it will be fine.

It's dry season here in Costa Rica so there are a lot of brush fires that appear and swarm the hills. Luckily the area around our villas are well-watered so there isn't much fear of them bursting into flames, but it certainly makes the hot air even more scorching.

It's been a little odd adjusting to not working, but of course I'm not complaining. There are a few residual worries I have from unfinished errands at home which are putting a dent into my relaxing thoughts, but hopefully once those are sorted out I'll be able to fully enjoy this month long vacation. I don't really have much to report as we've just been settling in and haven't even been to the beach yet but just lazed by the pool yesterday. I'm detemined to actually see some of the region and Jennah's letting me drive the treacherous roads (in a stick shift - which I haven't done since my test) later on today. Here's hoping we don't end up in a ditch....
