'All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy'... we were beginning to see the truth in this saying so we decided to take a couple of days off work and get out of the city. Everyone we've spoken to and all the local tourist centres go on about the Great Ocean Road so we decided to see what all the hype is about.

We left Melbourne and headed south through Geelong, by-passing Portarlington! Geelong is huge with the same population as Finglas and home of Ford car manufacturers. Next stop was just outside Torquey, Bells Beach. Surfers paradise! All the shops are for surfers and each year the national long board competitions are held here. As all who are following our travels will know we haven't seen much sunshine. This trip was going to be different, at last the sun was shining! At this point we were glad we decided to take an organized guided tour to Adelaide, rather than hire a car. We would never have left the beach! Lorne was the next stop, again near enough to Melbourne for nice weekend breaks.

Our next photo opportunity was the entrance to the Great Ocean Road, which was built many years ago by war veterans. When the men returned from war the Australian Government had to give them something to do and this long twisty coastal road was the result. Our first night will be spent in Apollo Bay, a small town with many holiday homes and resorts. Following dinner with the group, we watched My Restaurant Rules and went to bed, early start in the morning.
