ZAPALLAR
Based in a friend´s home in this fishing village turned luxury playground, we spent a week exploring the elegant ¨rambla¨ (esplanade), spying on the wealthy mansions through binoculars and poking around seaweedy rockpools.
We loved looking across the bay to Cerro Los Cruces - an island nature reserve with tracks leading up to an old Cypress tree and unusual wildlife. Bright purple flowers, cactii and shy green iguanas.
Weather was still cool for early summer and the ocean temp cold - so only up to our knees. Jade loved watching the waves rise and fall around her toes while skye collected many exotic shells and pebbles. Ended each day watching sunset over the Pacific (view from our verandah to die for) and a jacuzzi under the stars.
Watched Dad´s first solo yacht race from Quintero to Horcon and back again, sampling freshly caught seafood (machas parmesana, prawns, congrio and abalone) along the way. Fun to finally climb aboard ¨mystic sail¨, which he lovingly built himself over several years.
