Where I stayed
Dauphin Island Marina

We left Dog River this morning headed to Dauphin Island.  Tom has been entirely too stress free so I fixed that.  Suffice it to say when I pulled out of the marina I left two frazzled boatowners with boathooks in hand behind.  I've never seen Tom move so quickly up the steps to the flybridge to take the helm..."Only way I'll learn...", I told him...only consolation for me is that I'll never see those people again.  I hate that I gave women at the helm such a  bad name!

We had weather all around us, and the weather gods were kind...we picked our way through the weather and did not experience one single drop of rain. The cloud cover gave us a respite from the windless day.  We were visited by a pod of porpoises, otherwise the trip was uneventful as I picked my way down Mobile Bay around the islands, crab traps, and poles sticking up.

We have definitely entered the part of the country that was dessimated by Ivan and Katrina.  The marinas are far and few between, but so far we've been lucky.  We got this last available transient slip at Daupin Island tonight and tomorrow nabbed a spot at a marina in Biloxi.  I am going to try my luck at the craps table tomorrow night...am told that the odds are the best there than any other game in the casinos...7 - 11, anyone?

Just like Steinhatchee, this area seems to be a haven for fishermen.  Saw several boats pull in with incredibly large speckled trout.

Highlight of the day was going up to the restaurant for Happy Hour where Tom ordered some ice cream drink with kalhua.

We were the first to inaugurate the marina's brand new shower facilities.  Though there is no a/c in the shower room, it was nice to have the hot water.

Going to get up early tomorrow and head to Biloxi...hopefully the weather will cooperate.  Stephanie called today to give us a heads up on the flooding way up the Mississippi.  It will probably be a factor when we leave Slidell in about a week and a half as we get to the locks...more later.
