I'm in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean! Norwegian Epic’s current position is 31º 00.94’ N, 43º 32.47’ W, which puts us about halfway between Lisbon and Miami. We are sailing at a heading of 240º and a speed of 17.9 knots (21 mph).

Today was the second of five sea days en route from Ponta Delgada, Azores, to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. I got up at 12:34 p.m. after sleeping 12 hours 18 minutes. I came down with a cold yesterday but am feeling a little better today after the huge amount of sleep.

Ran into Craig in the Garden Café and we ate lunch together outside. After lunch I went up to Deck 18 forward to read some magazines. It was chillier today than it was yesterday. I had to go downstairs to my cabin to grab my sweatshirt, and I covered my legs with a towel. Quite disappointing – I had hoped it would get warmer today since we are sailing south.

By 4 p.m., the winds were blowing strongly and crew members came on deck to ask everyone to evacuate the forward area; it was being closed down due to the heavy winds. I went downstairs to grab some cookies from the midafternoon buffet, then sat by the pool and finished reading my stack of magazines.

Returned to my cabin at 5:09, then went downstairs to blog and sort photos in the "library." At 6:56 I headed to my cabin to change and then walked upstairs to the gym for 45 minutes of jogging and walking on the treadmill (3.74 miles).

Showered and shaved, then went downstairs at 8:17 to meet Craig and others at Shakers bar followed by dinner in the Manhattan Room. Tonight I ate a mixed greens salad with balsamic vinaigrette, mixed seafood chowder, and seafood cioppino. For dessert, I had coconut soufflé and raspberry sherbet.

Several of us then went to the Epic Theater for the 45-minute-long Jeff Hobson comedy/magic show, which was okay. Then it was on to Bliss nightclub for the '80s party. I danced to a few songs, then went upstairs to Decks 15/16 to get some fresh air and look out over the moonlit middle of the Atlantic Ocean. During dinner, several of us came up with a great idea for a new cruiseship excursion: You should be able to buy a seat in a lifeboat to venture out for an hour or so of swimming in the middle of the ocean! Wouldn’t that be cool? Then the lifeboat could take everyone back to the ship after the fun adventure. Several of us agreed we’d love to do that. If only such an excursion were offered!

Retired to my cabin at 12:50 a.m. It’s now 1:45 a.m. But will soon be 1:00 a.m. again as we change timezones tonight from GMT-1 to GMT-2. We are changing time four nights in a row to transition from Azores time (GMT) to USVI time (GMT-4; same as EDT). That means four 25-hour-long days in a row. Perfect for sleeping in!
