Got up at 1:17 p.m. aboard Norwegian Epic after sleeping more than 12.5 hours. I had set an alarm for 9:40 a.m., thinking I'd be able to wake up in time for the breakfast buffet. But I turned that alarm off and quickly fell back to sleep for another 3.5 hours.

Headed upstairs to the lunch buffet after awakening on this third sea day en route from Barcelona to Punta Delgada, Azores. Then headed down to Bliss Lounge on Deck 7 at 2:10 p.m. to sort photos, but it was freezing cold there, so I stopped by the Guest Services Desk on Deck 5 to file three complaints (about the lack of beverage options on the buffet aside from water and ice tea, my malfunctioning television, and the malfunctioning telephone voicemail system, which often gives a busy signal when you try to dial in to retrieve a message). Then went upstairs to grab a sweatshirt from my cabin.

Got some ice cream at the buffet, then returned to Bliss at 2:59 to sort photos from my Balkans & Berlin trip. The weather was crummy again today – chilly with a lot of rain until mid-afternoon, then the clouds began parting and there was a little bit of sun later in the afternoon. It was definitely an inside day.

Cabin at 4:45, then up to gym to run and walk 3.11 miles on the treadmill in 35 minutes. I was able to move a little faster today than yesterday. Either the seas aren’t as rough or I’ve gotten used to the movement of the ship.

Showered, then headed down to the atrium to meet Craig for our 6:00 dinner at Taste with two of the ship’s officers – Martin Invanov, food and beverage director, and Serena Monro, box office manager. Craig had entered us in a drawing to dine with officers and we were selected. Our table of seven also included a couple from Windsor, Ontario, on their 56th cruise and a black woman from London.

In addition to ensuring the service would be prompt and excellent, the perk of dining with the food and beverage manager was free all-you-can-drink wine. The server constantly refilled our glasses. Dinner was from the regular menu but everything tasted good. I had a beef empanada as the appetizer followed by a fresh greens salad with balsamic vinaigrette dressing. For the main course, I had Kung Pao Chicken with steamed rice and pineapple salsa. I ate strawberry cheesecake with strawberry sherbet for dessert.

Craig and I stopped by the Friends of Dorothy gathering at Shakers bar, then I returned to my cabin at 8:20 feeling totally out of it. All that wine sucked the energy out of me and now I’m in a wine coma. I laid in bed and watched TiVo on laptop for about two hours.

It’s now 10:19 p.m. We changed timezones for the second consecutive night last night, so we are now on GMT (four hours ahead of EDT). We are presently east of the Azores at a GPS position of 3737.01’ N, 2245.63’ W.

We are due into Punta Delgada tomorrow morning. I reviewed shore-excursion options last night. Norwegian only offers seven shore excursions in Punta Delgada, a small number. The only one that interested me at all was an exploration of the island by 4X4 vehicle. I nearly choked when I looked at the price list and saw the cost of $150 for that 3.5-hour-long tour. I quickly decided not to do an excursion in Punta Delgada; I will walk off the ship and explore on my own. I’ve done no reading about what there is to see in Punta Delgada. I’ll just have to pick up a map and wing it.
