We decided to leave Yosemite a day early, after seeing in the paper that this weekend was going to feature free park admission, and hearing some rangers remarking how it was going to be a zoo.  Checked the Tioga Road status online last night and found it was opening this morning!  So we headed out early to highway 120 eager for new sights.  Although we'd been told how beautiful the Tuolumne Meadows area is nothing could have prepared us for the amazing beauty of the place.  Check out the pics below if you don't believe me.
We started out by taking a hike down to the Tuolumne Grove of giant sequoias.  I'm always taken aback at the size of those things no matter how many times I see one.  And of course the other trees among which they live are all amazing.  Just an awesome forest.
When we got back on the road we almost found it impossible to drive more than a couple of minutes without stopping, the forest is so beautiful.  And the further east you go the more amazing the landscape gets.  The pictures don't do it justice, but they will describe it better than I can.  I think we will probably be planning a real trip to Tuolumne Meadows as soon as we can.
After clearing the Tioga Pass on the eastern end of the mountains, we headed down to Mammoth for a nice visit with Jill, Ashley's sister-in-law, who just moved back up there (lucky!).  She's right where she wants to be and we're happy for her.
Then on our way we stopped at Bishop and looked in on my friend Scott, who's always good for a stimulating visit.  I was glad to find him well and still wiggin'.
That's it!  Thanks for following us.
