Winter was certainly approaching faster at this time of year... the faces grew grim... the wind began to buffet the truck and worst of all we moved out to the backlot and began to shoot at night...
The backlot was where the town was built... It's really crazy to think of all the different films that have been shot there... That backlot has seen gladiators fighting, vampires cavorting, Batmobiles racing, martini's shaken... not stirred, Egyptian queens seducing emperor's, aliens rampaging and yes, a little boy finding a golden ticket...
Since i didn't own a camera at this time and also since it is forbidden to take photograph's on set, I haven't got any photo's of our time on Charlie & The Chocolate Factory... But later on I will begin to use some of my own photography...
The nights out there on the backlot were bitterly cold... especially sitting in a metal truck, at least we were safe from the wind... We would spend most of the night serving hot chocolate and soup and when we had free time we'd read our travel books and dream of the trip to come...
Only two more months until we flew out of Ol' Blighty and into paradise...
It was one of those cold, gusty nights when Derek, Tim Burton's assistant invited Anita and I to the Halloween Party he was organising...
No there's something to look forward to... an American, with a lot of money and interesting colleagues throwing a Halloween party...
Needless to say, we were thrilled and began to think about organising our costumes...
