This deserves a blog all of its own. Let me apologise upfront for the poor quality of the pics, but you should get the picture. The Peabody Hotel was established in 1925 and is a 5 star luxury hotel. I could barely afford to walk through the front doors. However, the unique thing about the Peabody Hotel is that it has 5 resident ducks. 4 Females and a Male. Dating back to some 50 years ago, these ducks have made the Peabody what it is today.

Firstly, these ducks have the entire penthouse floor equipped just for the five of them. Just before 11am every single day, a red carpet is rolled out from the lift to a fountain and pond in the middle of the hotel's reception area. For 15 minutes before this, the lift is out of use because it is reserved for the ducks. The Duck Master then addresses the crowd that has gathered and explains the history and tradition surrounding the Peabody Hotel and its ducks.

He then goes up the escalators and at precisely 11:00am sharp, the elevator doors open up and there are the 5 ducks who waddle out along the red carpet and into the pond, followed by the Duck Master. Although he doesn't follow them into the pond.

These ducks then play there until 5:00pm everyday at which point they are marched back to their awaiting lift, and clean penthouse suite, until the following day. It was really something to see.

Now some Honorary Duck Masters include Hilary Clinton, Gene Hackman and Tom Cruise, amongst others. They have personally led these ducks down the same red carpet walkway. Now the trick comes in, as a duck, in that these ducks only have a stay at the Peabody Palace for 90 days. Thereafter they are taken to a duck farm where they roam around and do as ducks do. And another 5 ducks (always 4 females and 1 male) are then chosen to have a stay of their lifetime for 90 days. I'm not sure if I was a duck, I'd want to leave the Peabody Penthouse after 90 days to get put back on a farm somewhere. I'd rather end up on someone's plate. Although having said that, the Peabody Hotel serves everything you can possibly think of, except duck...
