When we got to Canberra we booked into a hostel for a night and met up with Henrik and Stine from Denmark that evening for pizza. Sarah from work in Melbourne was flying down the following day and we were spending 3 days at her parents place with Sarah giving us the ultimate guided tour of Canberra city! We were sceptical at first about going to Canberra as people had told us there wasn't much to it but we found a very different story when we got there.......

Canberra is a gorgeous city especially in Autumn when we were there, it's full of beautiful parks and the Lake in the centre of the city is pure picturesque. Steve and I aren't exactly museum people but two trips to the war museum weren't enough to see everything and the National Museum was just as good with a real insight into Australia's history form the wildlife to the gold rush to Aboriginal culture and Shark attacks!

We went to a park with Sarah and her brother and parents and cooked up a barbeque, made for a great relaxing afternoon. Over the next few days we went to the old Lanyon Homestead, an early colonial settlement outside of Canberra, Parliament House, Old Parliament House and the museums. Parliament house was interesting and they have a water feature in a ground floor lobby which runs in such a way that if the ministers are having a conversation near the feature, their conversation can't be heard by people on the mezzanine overlooking the lobby. Sarah also gave us a guided tour of all the embassies which was great. Each embassy building is themed on the country they represent, class.

The few days we spent there were definitely not long enough and we'll go back again for a visit next time we're in Oz. Cheers Sarah for the great time we had x
