This morning, we took the bikes from the B&B to go to the Tulum ruins, just 3km away, by the beach. On our way, my tire just burst (more exploded actually) and Sean went back to change the bike. Then we got caught in some heavy rain, and Sean tried to stop at the tourist police station for shelter ... but they kicked him out! Nice one, cops! We finally arrived at the ruins, which lay on a cliff overlooking the Caribbean Sea. The ruins themselves were not as impressive as the other ones that we´ve seen, such as Tikal or Palenque. The buildings had far less detail and engravings than the others. It was also far more crowded with tourists, and it wasn´t possible to climb the steps or even get close to some of the ruins. However, the setting was just unbelievable. The sea was turquoise. Those Mayans sure know how to chose a nice spot!

Later on we had a nice picnic near the ruins and then cycled to the beach for a nice swim and a rest. We stopped at a bar for a beer and we really felt the difference from the rest of our trip, for the first time in nearly 3 weeks we heard US charts hits on the radio. We'd only been listening to Latino music before that!

On our way back to the B&B, Sean and Adrien decided to go shopping to the supermarket for an aperitif  while the girls took a shower. When they came back, they only had juice and nibbles to eat: on Sunday, supermarkets don't sell beer after noon. You should have seen the look of disappointment on their faces! The girls decided to go on a mission to find alcohol at all costs !! We first asked a guy in the street who sent us to a place that washes cars. We never found that place, but asked a few other people on the street and in some shops who directed us to various other places. Finally, after 20 minutes of walking around, we found a small crappy shop that was selling alcohol but the girl behind the counter would not sell it to us. Time for Marine to use her great Spanish and persuasion skills - "we wont say where we bought it, we will wrap it in a bag and hide it ..." The girl was nearly sold when a policeman passed by. Freeze. But he continued on and the Bacardi was sold !! Great victory of Team Chic's, we drank the whole bottle that night and the guys were really impressed !

The following day was time for us to say goodbye. We were heading back to Cancun and Adrien and Marine were heading to Chitchen Itza. It was great travelling with you guys. We had a brilliant time. Bon retour à Montreal, ayez une bonne party, n'oubliez pas d'acheter vos bières chez le depanneur! A bientôt a Sydney peut-être! (vous voyez comme je parle bien le quebecois maintenant)

Our Mexican-Guatemalan-Belizian tour is now over. We saw fabulous things and met great people. Time for us to put on our Panama hat now ...
