Where I stayed
I am seeing the road in the daytime and it is indeed winding but the Tuscan hills is beautiful. We reach a small little church on the way to Cortona to shoot a scene. It is deserted and hardly anyone. The wind is blowing and it is really cold.
Oh no, we have to be extras for a scene - long shot please..... Some of the girls are in the van between takes but I am nice and warm. Ray is shivering in his long sleeve polyster sweather - where does he think we are - Cameron Highlands. My biggest shock is my production manager who only has socks and sandals. She is shivering , too and has difficulty holding the clapper board.
We finish up and get into town - right into the Piazza Signorelli. This is looking very familiar. Not sure if its from the movie "Under the Tuscan Sun" or Tea with Mussolini. We get to park there because Matteo has cleared with the town . Its drizzling and we have to shoot the gelato scene. Some of the cast are complaining about eating gelato in such cold temperature. But the director insists.
I walk along the lovely little streets and start shopping for souvenirs. The first thing I go for are all the herbs and dressings for pasta. I buy like packets of pasta dressing, aglio olio, marinara, and truffle oils, paste . My son will so happy....
As they shoot the scene, I start making lunch arrangement. I found a nice warm cafe/restaurant on the same road - called Cafe Tuscher. Pizza, salads and pasta - very typical Italian but it has a very nice , warm atmosphere and hilly coffee!
After lunch, more shopping and then finally at Piazza Signorelli , I saw a nice little cafe - Antico
Cafe and wanted to warm myself with a glass of wine . In the cafe, there were pictures of the shoot of Under the Tuscan Sun . I asked about the fountain which I had been looking for and the lady pointed to the square and said that the fountain was placed there for the movie and then taken away. So, that explains it - so can't do a la dolce vita ala "Under the Tuscan Sun " . Brrrrr. its too cold anyway
