What a mess. MAS bumped us on on the eve of our departure and we found ourselves on Emirates and the journey now takes 6 hours longer. Though, technically our time in south Africa remains but the journey is soooooo much longer.

Anyway, left Changi yesterday night . The Emirates plane is quite nice and their inhouse flight entertainment is just fantastic . the only thing kept from going insane on this 22 hour flight. Stopped over in Dubai. Totally different from Abu Dhabi. its huge, crowded ( yeah) but spacious . as good as Changi. Prices for cosmetics are great . Bought my clinique moisturizer at RM50 cheaper than back home.

Finally arrived at Cape Town. It's surprisingly quiet - where's the festival??? We cleared immigration and customs ( again , I had problem looking for my keys. The custom officer made us swear that we didnt bring any food. We did declare our instant noodles of course.

We decide to take a cab instead of the hotel shuttle . Taxi signage is bad and we end up at the not so nice part of the airport ( more like the bus terminal) for the locals. A nice young man offers to look for a cab for us. Got a bad feeling. Looks more like our Malaysian taxi sapu ( illegal cab). There are two guys offering to bring us there. One of them asks us to walk to his car - no way ( did that when I was in Manila - thank God that nothing happened) . When finally the car comes - I decline - no way. It is a taxi sapu. I told Chung we should get back quick. I prefer the hotel shuttle.

We finally went back and found the taxi terminal . There is a taxi attendant and the stop is like almost 500 m away . What is this ? I have a feeling , they were not encouraging tourist to take the taxis - I can see why. The meter ran so fast . What would have cost 120 - 130 R cost us 250 rand. I should have just taken the shuttle.

We arrived at Holiday Inn Express and being a Platinum and diehard Holiday Inn member, it felt good checking in. I am nervous and scared as it is now dark and the streets are completely empty though we are right in the middle of the city. The concierge shows my husband the nearest store to buy drinks etc while we shower and get ready for dinner.

Dinner is across the street , a fantastic oven baked pizza place. I get my first taste of SA wine. Its a nice, very easy to drink white and the pizza comes in its huge portion. We cannot finish dinner and we are stuffed. We decide to be a biut more adventurous since there is a policeman at every corner and decide to walk around. The weather is cold and the streets are quite empty. Where is the WC festivities?
