I love Kota Kinabalu! I love the food, the beaches and this semi sleepy town for its relaxing pace yet it just had the right amount of bustle that kept it going...

So, I jumped at the chance of going back after nearly 6 years ago of absence. There are definitely more malls and even a highway which made travelling even quicker to KK town. We picked up our car at the airport and drove to ShangrilLa Tanjung Aru which was just 5 minutes from the airport.

Shangrila Tanjung Aru is my Sunset ShangriLa...The sunset bar at the beach is the nearest and cheapest option in the absence of an Hawaiian sunset. In my books, nothing has beaten the Hawaiian sunset and I have gone far and near in search of a place that can beat the sunset we saw at Waikiki Beach. And the verdict after 6 years, is ShangriLa Tanjung Aru comes out second. After Phuket, Langkawi, Nile River, Port Dickson , Pangkor Island, Jeffrey Bay... Of course, this is strictly the sunset beach/river category. Mountains and hillsides is another.  Still 6 years is a long time , and Shangri-La Hotel has only made the Sunset Bar better.

They have comfy huge blue bags that easily fit two people while you sip and enjoy your favorite drink with your love ones. Or you have the option of the lounge seats that is strategically faces the sunset with a clear , uninterrupted view.

Kiasu that I am , I am there early to make sure I get a nice seat but still I am a tad late and I get the huge blue bags which you can readjust the position. Its actually more romantic to squeeze into that but hubby is busy playing with his new toy - his brand new Nikon DSLR and I am left sipping my mai tai and just enjoying my sunset.
