The family's first trip to UK together ... and a match at Anfield with a detour to visit prospective university for Clarissa. This was our big family trip 2012. For hubby, his 50th birthday treat, for Chris his 16th . But knowing the boys, they probably will not remember why they went..

Arrived in Heathrow at 6.45 am on a wet November morning. Gloomy and overcast. Holiday Inn Wandworth had on their brochure " the station is a few minutes walk from the hotel .. we are that close you can spot us from the platforms". So I took it. Yup, you can spot it from the trains infact but I forgot that on a wet , cold morning , that few minutes can still be biting esp when unshaded.

Kept luggages in the hotel, too early for check in , so decided to walk a bit in London and then have an early night. First stop is Borough;s Market.. After 17 hours of flight, figured that a food trip would be more apt and we can also have lunch there. Turns out Borough's Market is an high end "street market" . The variety was fantastic .. Quite a different experience . The many breads, cheese, fruits etc... stuff that you buy back home in a high end supermarket sold on the streets like it was hawker food.

After a round of just minor tastings .. we finally went for the biggie - lunch . We ordered pulled pork sandwiches , a very rich and creamy mushroom soup, found a corner , and used the barrel as our table and had lunch. Not very glamorous, totally street food style only to be told by hubby that we just spent nearly 50 pounds i.e RM250 for that meal. Not that the food was not good, it was but I didn't have to eat it like a refugee though.

Claris and Chris were still getting used to pricing as they convert everything and were in disbelief as to how pricey London is.

Next stop Oxford Street ... its that one Saturday in November, where the streets are closed and we get to just walk on the road. The thing is this - we can find almost all the shops and brands in KL now and guess where hubby ends up - Uniglo...so we just soaked into the Christmas shopping frenzy of the Londoners , took some pictures and headed back to the hotel.

Its 5 pm, dark and wet.... Brrrr very cold and all we want is a nice warm shower after the long flight. The Inn had such a lovely comfortable bed and the thought of just going out for dinner was quite daunting so we made a dash to a local pub nearby called the Alma. Turned out that it had very good reviews and deservedly so. It was a Saturday and the pub was packed and so we went to the restaurant. We had pork pie, Guinness stew and fish and chips. Delicious and oh the restaurant was so nice and warm . Service was attentive... Then we are out into the cold again but this time with food and so was ready to walk a little bit . Neighbourhood is quiet and we walked across the hotel towards Thames... Apart from apartments and the river , nothing much to see.

Back to our nice warm beds instead
