Where I stayed
Flight into Osaka US400 plus US300 for the domestic flight from Osaka into Sapporo. The flight from KL to Osaka took 6 hours - longest I ever took on Air Asia was quite pleasant. No flight entertainment but a good book , Bejewelled Blitz on the Ipad and a good travelling companion made the trip very pleasant.
But I always find Japan very intimidating because the writing is totally alien, hence my aversion of Eastern Asian countries. But a girlfriend who frequently travels to Japan on business who is just nuts about flowers jumped at the suggestion of visiting Hokkaido. But even she at first found the many train lines into Osaka intimidating
I had done my research for trains to New Oriental but seriously did not expect the complexity of trains into Osaka. Its overwhelmingly to see so many signages and so many options but I only knew one thing - I needed to get to Namba Station and then take a metro line and exit two stops away . Now that sounds easy right but Namba station is huge!!!!. Many levels and looking for the right metro line was tough. Numerous asking, going around in circles and the occasional distraction because there were so many underground shops etc , we finally found the line which was a good ten min walk. Ah, you see we were looking for signages upwards, sideways but then did not think to look downwards.
finally, we got into our hotel, typically Japanese hotel , with cramped rooms but very clean and comfortables. After all that fussing it was already nearly 7 pm ( we had arrived at Kansai just quarter to 4pm). We had really good ramen around the corner and then off to the Umeda Sky Building. First night and we are still getting used to the underground. Another huge station stop and we then wandered around trying to figure out where Umeda Sky Building .
Lo what a long queue to the top. I thought of nearly turning back but then read to many good reviews to turn back. Turned out that 7 july is the Japanese version of Valentine's Day and the top of Umeda sky Building is famous romantic spot . Couples everywhere dressed in their best. People watching was as good as the view at the top...
Again, after more asking, we find it
