We flew in from Geneva  on Easyjet into Orly . Orly airport  is smaller and a lot quieter and hence much easier to figure out than CDG. We decided to take the cab because the train to Holiday Inn Paris Auteil required at least two interchange . After the hike in Chamonix, my legs were killing me and I did not fancy having to lug the luggages through escalators and stairs.

It was a good decision as the cab was slightly less than 30 euros . The trains would have cost 10  euros less I reckon but still worth every penny. Holiday Inn Paris Auteil, is in a very nice quiet neighbourhood and the service was friendly enough. The rooms clean and spacious with a lovely , comfortable bed with sheets and lots of nice , soft pillow. After the studio apartment in Les Balcons Du Savoy where we slept on the mattress on the floor , this was heavenly.

We took the metro which was just right in front of the hotel and in ten minutes was in Notre Dame. As we walked out , we can see the Notre Dame standing there in the light and the river Seine. For Chung , its been 25 years since the first visit . As for me , strangely, though my many business visit to Cannes in the last 25 years, I never went back to this beautiful, romantic city . that is until June this year.

Chung and I visited  Paris 25 years ago when he was a student and I an intern. So we were on a shoestring budget, you know a eurail that brought us across the major cities in 14 days . It was also  in late October and I remember arriving on a night train from Geneva, exhausted because the train was so cold and we couldnt sleep all night. Looking for the hotel in St germain took us another two hours trying to figure out the map and of course not been able to afford a cab. We couldnt afford cruises, or to go up Eiffel Towers and saved every penny to go into the Louvre. No fancy meals and  A treat then was rosti poulet that we bought off the street but till this day, i  can still smell the roasted chicken and how hot and tasty the chicken was . I remember peering through the windows just looking at all the wonderful and delicious food displayed but it was just too expensive.

But most of all, I remember River Seine and how we had to walk from Notre Dame back to our hotel somewhere in St Germain because the Metro shut down after midnight and we couldnt afford a cab. But we were young , very in love and walking for one and a half hours after midnight was so romantic.. ..

Well, we are now back in this beautiful city and though the euros is like four times to our Malaysian ringgit, we wanted to go on the River Seine cruise and it had to be with  the dinner and french wine. So we queued for about 45 minutes and we were off to a lovely romantic dinner on the river seine to soak in the lights and the sights of Paris surrounded by tourists of all walks and ages. just  When I came in June , the group was suppose to go on the cruise but typically Malaysians , the group was distracted by the last night shopping . And so I waited and waited at Notre Dame cafe but The ladies and one guy had been so busy shopping that it  was too late to go for the cruise. It was a Friday summer night ,  the river seine and Notre Dame were filled with people singing , dancing . That's when I knew I needed to come back , this time with Chung ...

And so I am back in Paris and it was a such a  great first night because right after the cruise, we walked into Latin Quartier and it was just filled with people and everyone was so happy - Gay Paree!!!. We didnt want to go back to the hotel and decided to enjoy the Parisien nightlife. We stopped for drinks at Cafe Le Petit Pont just across Hotel Notre Dame . It was a great place to view the Notre Dame and just  people watch accompanied by a French singer and pianist. music. At the next table, a South american couple., popped a bottle of champagne and started dancing . And soon we had ours served with sparklers too.   TOTALLY,  totally different from our first visit. Happy anniversary Chung!!!
