Montblanc

You will be surprised by the number of people who have heard of Mont Blanc the pen but not the mountain. So when I told friends that I was going to Chamonix - they went "where" and when I told them about Mont Blanc - they go hmmm , will the pen be cheaper there ?  Well, after Pracicvka Brana , I kinda got the hiking bug and when I googles trekking trails - the Mont Blanc circuit came up. Well, the circuit was quite impossible for someone as unfit as me but Chamonix, cable cars and Mont Blanc , the Alps in three countries was hard to resist. And so here I am in Chamonix, eager to see the Alps and the famous Mont Blanc that can be seen in three countries - France, italy and Switzerland . The kiasu Malaysian in me loves a good deal and this sounds like one.

The panoramic cable car that crosses France and Italy -  now surely that is value for money. But the panoramic cable car is closed for the season and so the furthest the cable car would go is Aguille Di Midi. huh - one more reason to come back here.
I
I checked the weather earlier and  I decided that I needed to do this trip plus Montevers this very day as the next day is predicted to be cloudy. So I reached the terminal for the earliest trip and timed to return by noon to take the  2 pm train up Montevers..

I am feeling like a little girl , excited and impatient to board the cable car but hubby has to run off to buy coffee. i am impatient and ranting internally fearful that he will miss the car. The good thing about off peak season is the crowd or more accurately the absence of it. And he did make it back in time and there was enough space for us to go to squeeze into the car.

We stopped half way at Plan De Midi  to change cable car. We decided to come back for the stop and just continue on. But drat, I dropped my camera and it seems to be giving me problems. Upset but at least I have the brand new Nikon but just as we reached Aguille Di Midi and started snapping pictures - the unthinkable happened - the Nikon runs out of battery powers. Drat !!!!! I had charged it overnight and because it is new, i am not sure what happened - the cold freezing temperature perhaps. thank goodness for hubby's iphone and the wonderful beautiful , clear blue sunny day . We did get wonderful pictures  though the Nikon would definitely give us better pictures. After our be a Jap/ Asian picture snapping mode, the cold was getting to us and we decided to have something hot at the cafe. We had the most delicious mushroom soup that really thick and creamy topped with loads and loads of croutons...yummmmmmmmmyyyyyy

We stopped for a glass of wine at Plan De Midi. Sipping a glass of red surrounded by the ice-capped alps, the Mont Blanc at a distant , snow covered plains and the bluest sky ever - fed my romantic soul. I cannot ask for more... i savour every sip of wine, take in every fresh breathe of air and just took a mental picture of this moment. I shall be back...I need to come back perhaps in the spring this time and I will take this trek from Plan De Midi to Montevers when the plains are green filled with yellow flowers. Oh yes , with a glass of wine and some cheese of course.
