In a small little village called Whakatane this morning. Well, I say small as my hostel is in the suburbs but after a mile walk you get to the main town on the seaside which is quite pretty!. I spent 2 hours yesterday sat at the bus stop in Rotorua waiting for my was running an hour behind!..So as usual I had my sketchbook out etc, and a few people started stopping and commenting on my work which was nice:), anyway after a long wait and bus ride I finally made it to my hostel. Sat on the sofa to relax, and opended my sketchbook to my latest drawing and found my work being kinda recognised by people who had also spent a lot of time wasting in Rotorua! Anyway, to cut a long story short I seem to have somehow managed to pay for my 2nights accommadation here by being able to draw a sketch of the owner when he was  ajockey....a few years back now. He seemed really impressed by what I could draw, and I was happy with the free stay so its all good:)

Lol anyway off out to White Island today, so better get off the interenet!
Gisbourne tomrow, then Napier with Daisy the day after..

Day 2....i think?!!

Ok so I've tottally lsot track of what day it is but i dont really think it matters that much! Had the most amazing day! Took a trip out to White Island, one of New Zealands only live volcanoes and it was well worth it! It was quite a rough trip over, and I was one of the only ones sat at the bow getting soaked by all the reminded me of kayaking:P all the guys ran they do:) lol anyway, as we approached the island you could see the smoke rising from the crater....aaaaand we all piled into a dingy and made our way to a rather battered jetty, we had a guided walk around the island which was amazing! we got to walk right to the edge of the main crater, and the whole experience was just incredible! i wish i could upload some pics, its annoying! but our guide went on to say that scientists are monitoring the island, and it has between 10 and 30 tremours a day, which is quite scary when you think about it! and she gave us all the history of how it used to be mined for its Sulphur. There are ruins of the old factory and mine station on one of the beaches, and apparently the guys lived there for months at a time. But after a large eruption there years ago the factory was destroyed killing all people there at the time. theres a nice little bit of history for you!:) Apparenlty they do see a lot of dolphins and whales on the trip over, but nothing to see today unfourtnatley!:(....but never mind!
So, off to Gisbourne at 3pm tomorow, then Napier the next morning to meet up with Daisy who has just walked the Tongariro crossing in Taupo up to the Emerald not jealous at all!

Anyway, ill have another fight with this computer and see if i can get some photos up,

Day 3......
I had a whole morning to waste before my bus to Gisborne, so i spent my time lookking round the shops and sitting on the beach, not bad reallly:) the main town is actully quite pretty with some nice little shops too. I walked along the main wharf and sat ona  rahter rocky beach looking over to what is known as the Strand, basically just a large strech of sand. I spent some time doing my sketchbook and just enjoying doing nothing....although monkey had otehr ideas!

Congratulations on bargaining with your sketches, have confidence it should be the first of many. White Island sounds incredible but a bit scary.
