We had breakfast, checked out and waited downstairs in the lobby for our pickup from the bus company. We waited about 15 mins after the time they were supposed to be there, then got the hotel to call and check. All good, they said, they'll be here soon. Already alarm bells started going off in my head, didn't feel right but they did turn up, we got the tuk tuk up to the bus terminal. And then we saw our bus, definitely not the limousine bus we were expecting, old & dirty. Oh well, we figured it would be ok as long as it got us there in one piece.

We set off a bit later than we were supposed to, the road was rough and bumpy for a lot of the way, roadworks meant all sorts of delays and hassles along the way. And the bus wasn't an express service as it stopped several times to pick up and drop off locals, that added to the delay as well.

Half way stop was at a grotty local restaurant, we only had 20 mins so not enough to buy any food, too hot to do anything much except sit on the steps and wait. The little market stalls nearby were selling all sorts of yummy bugs - grasshoppers, beetles, grubs etc. Made my stomach turn.

So we were keeping an eye on the roadsigns and we were almost at Siem Reap, when the worst imaginable thing happened - the bus broke down. Yep, so we were stranded about 10kms from our destination. All the men got out for a pee stop, it was too hot to stay in the bus without air conditioning, so I got out as well and tried to find some shade. Mike and I walked over to a mango tree nearby and tried to pick some, but a couple of local guys from the bus told us not to because they sometimes have fruit fly (or something like that). Eventually, a minibus came and picked us up and we finally made it to Siem Reap.

We had transport arranged with our hotel which was a godsend, the tuk tuk driver Sam Son had been waiting for us, and drove us the short distance to the hotel. Checked in and absolute bliss, huge room beautifully decorated, great pool and lovely friendly staff. Love it! Organised our temple itinerary, will have the same driver, Mike doesn't want to visit any temples, he has seen enough!

We showered and changed, left washing at reception, then walked up to Pub Street for dinner, by chance we found a restaurant owned by the same guy who owns our hotel (turns out he owns about 7 around SR). Wandered around all the night markets, but it all started to look the same same, so headed back for a ell earned sleep.
