Arrived at Hanoi airport and headed straight to the Visa on Arrival office. Had all our forms filled out ready, so handed them in at the desk, and walked around to the other side of the office. Waited about 20 minutes, our name was called out, we paid our $45 each and got our passports back with visa in it, then went through immigration, then to collect our bags, didn't take too long. We walked straight through customs, then out to find a driver with our name, he was waiting for us and drove us to the hotel. Lovely and green along the way, the weather was drizzling and foggy, but we loved the little houses with the French style architecture.

Arrived at our hotel and met Jenny and Cherry, who I have been emailing to organise accommodation and our Halong Bay and Sapa trips. Lovely friendly girls, they brought us a welcome drink and chatted about our trip, making sure that the visa and pickup went smoothly. Showed to our room and changed, then we went back downstairs, paid our bill in total (we were going to change money to pay in dong, but they were o to take Aussie dollars and we got it at a better rate than at the bank). They gave us a map of the area and we wandered around the Old Quarter, getting lost a few times, finally found the lake and a bank t exchange money, then we ate at a small restaurant, wandered around some more, before heading back to the hotel for a shower and rest.

We went out again about 4 to explore some more, found the local markets which were almost ready to close, wandered around all the streets of the Old Quarter and just lapped up the experience. I grabbed a bread roll with 2 skewers of meat (hopefully beef) 20000 dong and Mike had seafood noodles at a small roadside restaurant 60000 dong.

We headed back to the hotel and were asleep in bed just after 7:30pm.
