Flag of Switzerland  , Swiss Alps,
Saturday, May 8, 2010

Crossed the alps today from Bern, through the alpine lake town of Interlaken and then on to Lugano, the italian part of swiss country on the border and part of the world famous lake region that includes not only Lake Lugano, but Lake Como and Lake Maggiore, which include the towns of Bellanzona , Locarno and Bellagio., The ride included the St. Goddard pass through the famous Swiss Alps and took a lot longer than anticipated due to traffic beforw thye last, very long tunnel. About 30 tunnels in all were transgressed. The alpine scenery is unique in the world and includes some of the most fertile farmland imagineable. This is trully Heidi country and also the land that lead to the William Tell story.

Lugano is among my favorite places on earth with its very fashionable lakeside location, great curvilinear streest, palazzo and restaurants serviong authentic italian cuisine. The walk along the lakeside brings one to the style of Monte carlo, without the pricetag, although this place like all of the Swiss countryside is very expensive. The store contain watches at every price level and the streets are filled withy all kinds of cars again, at designer pricetags. This is also a great base for a trip by water over to the italian side or up to the well known resorts around St. Moritz if one is ski happy, or down to Milan a mere couple hours south, if one is a shopaholic.

The evening time brings many photo opps, to be shown soon and the city has a number of pizzerias, to go along with the upscale restaurants and bars. great beer and wine can be found at evry turn and one can wander the steeets and avenue lining the water for hours. There are also feniculars to go up the many hills and there are casinos here in Lugano and one on the other side of the lake, in Italy. Also there are castles, museums and art galleries to explore so a one day visit may not be sufficient, but is all on short notice, afforded on this trip.
