Our first official stop was at Rutt's Hut in Clifton, New Jersey to grab some deep-fried hot dogs called "rippers." Extra well done with house-made relish should have been a tasty treat, but we were less than thrilled. Crunchy exterior, soft interior made for an interesting twist, but it was still just a hot dog. We decided that since we were unsatisfied, we would make a detour on our way to DC and stop in Philadelphia for some cheese-steaks to make up for a sub-par first meal.
