We left the motel in Evansville at 11:00 and drove toward St. Louis on the border of Illinois and Missouri. It took us less than 3 hours to beat this stretch of approximately 160 miles. It was cold as in the fridge and we have had some rain and snow on the way. We walked around St.Louis' downtown to see famous and impressive Gateway Arch - the symbol of pioneer's expansion to the west of America. It was possible to get inside and take the lift to the top of the arch, so we used this opportunity to admire panorama from this Gateway to the West.

We drove down to Missouri along I-44. After experiencing some heavy, but short snowfall, we stopped at the Route 66 Missouri State Park (our first stop on Route 66) just to learn that the park is closed due to flooding. We wanted to stop at the Meramec Caverns as well, but we realized that they are open only from 9 to 5 and it was 4:50 when we were passing the proper exit from the I-44. Our next stop was in a town of Cuba where we drove on Route 66 for a bit and took some photos of a nice looking tavern and People's Bank of Cuba. It was dawn already, so we ended our day in Rolla, MO.
