We woke up at 6:00 on Thursday. I run quickly to food street vendor just around the corner and grabbed some bagels for breakfast for all of us. Just because I took eight of them, the vendor offered me a complimentary tea as his appreciation for me "supporting the business". Very nice. We packed ourselves quickly and took a quick walk 20 blocks downtown to the car rental company. All formalities took about 15 minutes. I drove out of the garage in brand new Chevrolet Uplander II at 8:30. After circling in Manhattan for about half an hour we finally found our way out of the city towards District of Columbia . We drove through the state of New Jersey and Delaware and we entered Washington around 14:00.

After circling for about half an hour around downtown, we managed to park next to the U.S. Capitol building. We took some footage there and walked down the Mall towards Washington's Monument and the White House. We took some pictures there as well and we ended up in McDonald's for a dinner at around 18:00. After that we went towards the Lincoln Memorial, and Vietnam War, Korean War, I World War and II World War monuments. Another phony tourists' photo opp and a walk back to the car. We circled around Washington for another hour or so trying to find the Pentagon and we actually managed to do this. Piotr took some pictures and made short video footage before the car marked "Pentagon Police" stopped and two quite harsh policemen advised us that taking pictures is not allowed.

After Pentagon we took US-50 westwards in search for a place to stay. We crossed to Virginia and stopped in Middleburg (pop. 600+), but it was a ghost town during that time of the day. We decided to hit the next bigger town which happened to be Winchester (pop. 25,000). We stopped at one motel just before the town and tried to get a room there. I went with Piotr to talk to the owner who said that he can offer us two double bedrooms for 45 USD each. He suggested however that the condition is that we are two heterosexual couples. He said something like that: 'I won't allow two guys in one room together, because this is the way how the construction workers want to save money'. We keep wondering does he actually has anything towards gay people or maybe he just wants to earn more money? This will be a mystery for us as we decided to mover further. This was a good decision as we ended up in Winchester's Best Western motel having a room with two double bedrooms and a free wireless internet for 80 bucks for the whole room. We went to bed after midnight and woke up shortly before 9:00. We went for an enormous and cheap breakfast at the motel's restaurant and hit the road at 11:00. Plan for today is to cross the Allegheny Mountains in West Virginia. With some luck we will be sleeping in Ohio tonight.
