The bus station at Kurunegalla was probably the most manic place I have encountered. It is absolute mayhem. The place is heaving and the noise and choking fumes just add to the atmosphere. Added to that everything is written in Singhalese so finding the bus you need is almost impossible. You are stared at by absolutely everybody. Not a place for the self-conscious!
I was clearly something of a talking point as I had to stand all the way on the packed bus. The kids were particularly fascinated by the strange westerner on their bus, but give them a smile and and they are chuffed to bits. Incredible.
