Today I had my first full day in Singapore! First of all I went with my new acquaintance (forgotten the name) around Little India, a part of Singapore where a large population of Indians are based (go figure!!) She then went off to meet her friend. I went for a wander around Little India and was going to go into the Sultan Mosque (the largest mosque in Singapore) but needed to wear trousers and a shirt which I wasn't going to do in this humidity. The weather is so hot and what makes it uncomfortable is the high humidity. I then came across the Fou Lu Shou Complex, an interesting street market area really close to the two temples I was looking for. The Sri Krishnan Temple was quite pretty from the outside, however it looked fairly modern and slightly tacky, I wasn't overly impressed. The other temple; Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho, was only marginally better as it was so small, however the gold statues were pretty good. After I hopped on the efficient, clean and simple MRT train service (reminded me of Beijing underground) to Harbour Front. Once here I took a cable car to Sentosa Island, as Lonely planet guide recommended it for its good views of Singapore. Unfortunately the views dissapointed me, as a lot of Singapore is under construction, although the views of the Harbour were ok. Other factors that let it down where the duration, being only 5 minutes and costing 22 Singapore dollars. Sentosa Island I did not like, everything was really touristy, with attractions and overinflated pricing and it had a cheap, tacky and inauthentic feel about it, everything a island shouldn't be. After doing the Imbiah trail nature walk (which was the best thing in Sentosa), I headed to to the Harbour Front again via the cable car. I then proceeded to the Harbour Front shopping centre, where I had a mooch around. After I headed to Vivo City to see some more interesting shops. Once in here I got to have a good chuckle as there was a marching band playing in the shopping mall, they were really great and had great comic timing. In the evening it was a quite one.
