With my first full day in Melbourne I met up with my frends from Korea (sorry guys I know nearly all your names, but it would give me hand ache if I wrote them down alll the time :)) and June was our tour guide, whilst being very informative we did get stuck a couple of times and didn't manage to get that elusive free tram ride. However, I took over temporarily from her to guide us to the Botanic Gardens. They were quite pretty, yet not as impressive as the ones in Sydney. We took some great pictures by the grassy area with palm trees and then took some nice group photos amongst the bamboo trees. We then spent the remainder of the day split up going our seperate ways, with myself having the pleasure of company with Narae, Lisa and Hannah. We walked around some shops and markets, and then sat down chatting for about an hour oustide a cafe. Telling the girls about myself and I learnt what their interests where, what films they liked, what their dreams were and where they wanted to travel. We then had to wait around for a while, as Sung Min and Sung (sorry guys i hope i got those names correct), as they were getting something from the shop. After getting blow around by the really strong gales and getting pretty cold we proceeded to the parliament house. The building was closed, but we managed to get some nice group photos, just before it started to rain, it was really crazy, it bucketted down with rain, and my Narae and Sophie were under one umbrella, trying to stop it from getting blown away, it was quite funny even though we were getting soaked! We made it to St Patricks Cathedral intact and managed to enter this holy place relatively dry. The building was pretty much empty as it was near closing time and their was a somber silence amongst the rafters of the place. We got some nice photos and chilled out for a while, seeking refuge from the rain, however we were soon back amongst it when the building was closed. On the way back to their hostel Kim, Sophie, Sung and me went ahead whilst everyone else did some shopping for food. We chilled in the hostel for a while in one of the two rooms and then Kim told me to go to the other room. What a amazing surprise!! Everyone, all twelve of my dear friends were in the dark, with a chocolate birthday cake, with the number 22 candles lit up on it. Everyone sang happy birthday to me, it was such an overwhelming, kind and caring gesture, I was shell-shocked and so very happy. I wasn't expecting it as I had mentioned it to them a couple of times in passing. They then made the rest of the group and me some traditional Korean noodles, which were awesome and really spicy!! After they gave me a Korean keyring as a momento of our time together, something I will treasure. Everyone then chilled out for a while, pretty sad as we would soon be going our seperate ways. Narae, Lisa and Hannah were quite sad as was I. With a few people with watery eyes everyone said goodbye to me and gave some big hugs and waved me off. I felt a bit deflated, but so happy that I had the chance to meet them. I pondered how chance can affect the course your life takes, if I hadn't of been made redundant from my job in London, I wouldn't have gone travelling and If i hadn't gone to Oz or hadn't made the effort and be open to speaking with my korean friends whilst on our trip I would never have made such great friends. A special thankyou to my friends from Korea for making my time in Melbourne and on the Great Ocean Road a great memory. Korea here I come next year, lol.
