The Greyhound bus arrived in Byron Bay really early, at 7:30am. The weather was slightly cloudy, although Byron Bay was still great to walk around. The great draw about Byron Bay is its really relaxed atmosphere and has a hip surfer town feel to it. People casually saunter through the town in flip-flops and boardies/skirts, with surfboards in hand. The beach is so near our hostel, just a 5 minute walk away, its a pretty hip place to be and a good backpacker scene. I met Cheryl and Anne (from Bedfordshire) and Tom (from Wales) on the Greyhound bus and we checked into Nomads hostel together before walking along the beach, chatting and hoping for some good weather. On the walk we saw a dead puffa fish (my new facebook profile pic), which was cool but random. We decided on being adventurous(!) and went on the scenic walk up to Byron Lighthouse. The views from the top were quite pleasant, it reminded me of my trip up to Cape Reinga lightouse in NZ. Later on in the day the sunshine burst through the clouds and we had some nice hot weather for the rest of the day. Cheryl, Anne, Tom and me then went back to the beach where I randomly met Caitlin and Kelli from the Kiwi Experience bus!! It was really great to see someone again from the kiwi bus and be able to hear what i have to look forward to up the east coast (As they were travelling down). By now the water was nice and tepid (who uses that word?!) so Tom, me and Kelli went for a swim, the water was awesome, so refreshing. It was really cool that people were able to swim out really far and then stand on sandbacks in the water and walk around. We said our farewells and in the evening I checked my facebook and saw James and Lloyd were in Byron Bay also, so i met up with those nutters again!! In the evening Nomads did a bus to the cheeky monkey bar, where Tom, Cheryl, Anne and me went. James, Lloyd and their friends from the Oz experience bus were there as well. I got to bed around 12pm, still exhausted from the greyhound bus trip.
