What I did
Wineries
Saturday, January 7: Today is my 60th (WHAT???) Birthday. A group of us are going wine tasting: Kaptain, Jan and Dave, Larry and Laurie, Larry and Shirley and Toni. Poor Steven was sick and couldn't make it. We missed him!
A van was reserved so no one would be driving during wine tasting. The van picked us up at the hotel and took us to Monte De Oro Winery first. I had chosen this one because they have a glass floor that allows you to look down in the cellar where they have private wine tastings and barrels of wine. Also, the view from this place is awesome.
The next winery was Bella Vista Winery, the oldest Winery in Temecula. They have a BEAUTIFUL long, round bar that they use to serve the wine tasting.
Bella Vista Winery was our second winery because it is about lunchtime and they have a nice eating area with a cabana overlooking the valley. Kaptain had gotten some sandwiches and chips for us earlier that day and the nice van driver set it all up for us. Next to the eating area is a nice lake with geese. Yes, I said, GEESE next to the eating area. As you know, geese can be VERY aggressive, so we had to fend them off a few times.
Our next stop was Mount Palomar. The driver gave us a couple of free deserts to add to our celebration. More wine tasting, more laughter and definitely more fun.
Europa Winery was our last stop before heading back to the hotel. We chose this last on purpose because it is a quaint, personal winery. I thought it would be a good ending to our day of wine tasting. When we got there, they asked us if we minded wine tasting outside. Uh, HECK NO!!! Beautiful little winery.
While at Europa, Toni started talking to some people also wine tasting. She and this other guy got into a competition showing off their muscles.....you had to be there :)
After Europa, we went back to the hotel. There was an Italian restaurant across the street so after we unloaded our purchases from the wineries, we went to dinner. Because it was across the street, we walked.
We got back to the room and even though I had told my friends, "No Gifts, please", no one had listened. I received some very nice and some funny gifts. Kaptain gave me a gift certificate for a winemaking lesson at a place in Huntington Beach. It was a very nice evening, including a delicious cake that Laurie brought.
Sunday, January 8: We got up (not too early) and checked out of the hotel. Jan and Dave also spent the night at the hotel. Our rooms included breakfast but we instead of eating at the hotel, we decided to head back to Menifee and go to The Breakfast Club. We then went to our RV Park, where Shirley and Larry joined us. We all spent a relaxing, sunny day watching football outside.
Larry and Shirley went back to their RV at Pechanga and Jan and Dave went home. We spent the evening and the next morning getting ready for our "long RV trip" on Monday to Indio.
Reflecting back on this weekend, I spent my BIG 6-0 exactly how I wanted to, with friends on a beautiful day wine tasting. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will remember it for a long, long time.
