Where I stayed
First, we went to a little place about a block from Leah's to have breakfast. Leah ordered for me and it was delicious. She informed me it was not really low cal but it was still good. Oh, by the way...breakfast for both of us was under $2 US.
We walked a couple of blocks (passing the KFC) and went to Starbucks...sounds like I'm in the states doesn't it. Our next destination was Chiang Kai Shek Memorial. Beautiful grounds. The city is so clean. Walked up all the stairs too see the memorial and the guard that doesn't move...kind of like the Palace Guards in England
Our next destination was Taipei 101, which is the second tallest building in the world. On our way there we took the Metro. There are two shopping malls at the Metro. One is very upscale and the other is, well, not. We were there before the shops opened but I snapped a few photos. For some reason the security guard approached me waving his hand indicating no pictures. We are not sure why we couldn't take pictures but I'm in a foreign country so I complied.
When we got to Taipei 101, we went up to the 88th floor on the fastest elevator I have ever been in. My ears ears popped as we ascended. The 88th floor is not the top floor but it is where they have the lookout. The top floor is 101. Unfortunately, it is kind of overcast today. (For my Arizona friends, I think it was marine layer :). Visibility wasn't the greatest. We got the audio tour and looked around at the city.
With the tickets we bought, there was a buy one, get one free coupon for a beer and ice cream float. No, I didn't forget the "root", it was a BEER ice cream float. Of course, we had to try it. The taste was not bad. The flavors really didn't blend together so you either tasted the beer or the ice cream
After our tour of Taipei 101, Nick met us for lunch. We went to a mall below the Taipei 101 building. This trip, I've been putting myself in Leah's hands as she knows better than I do what to order. I certainly didn't want to eat lunch at Subway or McDonald's (honest, we aren't in the states). She ordered a noodle bowl that had beef and intestines. Hadn't tried that before but it wasn't bad.
We wandered around the mall a little and ran into a grocery store. They had sake tasting...of course, not to be rude we HAD TO do the tasting. I ended up buying a really good citrus sake. A little expensive but, hey, how often will I be in Taiwan!
As we worked our way back to the Metro to head for home, we passed by some street entertainers that were very entertaining. There was also a young girl who was a model. There were TONS and TONS of people with professional looking cameras taking pictures of her. We didn't know who the heck she was but when we looked at the picture behind her, I figured out it was her on the poster. I took a couple of pictures of her.
We headed back to the Metro and to Leah's place to take a short nap. Nick will be meeting us for dinner later.
After about an hour and a half nap, we met Nick for dinner at a hot pot restaurant not too far from Leah's apartment. Again, lots of stuff I didn't know what it was but what we did eat was good
After dinner, we hit Starbucks again and walked around an area that has a lot of lights, kind of like a mini Times Square. We are on a quest to buy something for our "costumes". Leah, Nick and I are invited to a murder mystery party tomorrow night, hosted by a couple of their friends. Leah and Nick will be Bonnie and Clyde....I am a mysterious woman with a red scarf. Hmmm this will be fun!
After walking around town, we went to Nick's apartment and played "Rock Band"....They are very good! I was the guitar player and let's just say, I wasn't so good.
We left Nick's about 11:00 and went home very tired. This time I took some Motrin so I could sleep better.
Tomorrow we are off to see a Temple and tomorrow night is the Murder Mystery Party.
