I guess the name Barbados is among the more familiar names to us but we had no idea what to expect. We docked at 8:00 excited about the excursion we had planned with a local photographer, billed only as a trip to some of the photographer's favorite scenic locations. We passed fields of sugar cane and learned about the value of sugar in the history of Barbados. We learned of the island's rum industry, visited a rum shop where we learned how to make Barbados rum punch. We saw a number of Chattel houses which were built so they could easily be dismantled and moved to a new location when necessary. Most spectacular, though, was the beautiful coast line with its swaying palm trees and rugged coral rock formations. We pulled away from Barbados at 5:00 sorry to leave but having thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
