According to the Maori mythology, Kaikoura is the point from where Maui fished up the North island from the sea. the name Kaikoura in Maori means 'meal of crayfish', which is one of the many examples of the plentiful sea life in the area. a great spot to swim with dolphins or spot a few whales, the ocean is the centre of the community. Kaikoura is a quite little town but had a lot to offer as the mountain ranges behind the town where beautiful.
