Where I stayed
Sue dropped me off at the 'Painted Turtle Guesthouse'
www.paintedturtle.ca and is it a sight better than the Castaway Motel!
A heritage building converted to a hostel 3 years ago
and Hostelling Canada voted it #1 in Canada this year. I am in a
4 bed female dorm and it was full last night. $22.50 /
night. Anyway, used their free internet a nd got a message from
Kim who I met in Saigon, and she was travelling to Nanaimo at 2 p.m. on
the mini bus from near Comox and was I in Nanaimo and could I
meet her that day at the Departure Bay ferry terminal? We had
been keeping in touch as we were both coming back to Canada
around the same time,Well, this was 12:30 p.m. so I had time to
find my way there. It was a lovely hour walk, a lot of it along
the waterfront, but sometimes I had to get back to Terminal Ave/Stewart
Ave to continue. Got there with 10 minutes to spare, and met up with
her! WOw, it was such a coincidence meeting her in Saigon, when I
asked directions and to be able to meet up again (as we did in
Bangkok) is terrific. She is back in Canada after teaching in
Vietnam for 4 years so is having a bit of cultural shock! We got
a pic taken and then she had to catch her ferry to Vancouver at 3 p.m.
I then walked back downtown, so
