Cannot believe that I will be going to the airport for flight to Auckland in a couple of hours for Air New Zealand flight to San Fran and then change to Air Canada for Vancouver! Funny thing is I arrive on the same day I leave due to the date line.
Yesterday I went back to Canterbury Museum here to view the Antarctic display Then I saw French Art Film Movie called "The Singer'. Quite a meloncholy film I thought And then I met a hostel mate, Theresa, for my last dinner (we shared a $10 pizza special at a little pub in the Hotel Warner, an historic hotel).  She is half Maori and half Samoan and is here from Auckland for a 5 day course in Event Management.  She had left her key to her suitcase lock back in Auckland so I held her case while she sawed through the zipper pull the night before last.  She is 23 and has a 2 year old daughter who was being cared for by her 21 year old partner who is aiming to be a policeman and plays volleyball for a semi professional NZ team.
In Stonehurst, my hostel for the last 4 nights, as in most of them, most nights there was a different person in the 6 bed room that I shared with the 2 Irish girls, who were downstairs watching tv until the wee hours. So the new person and I usually chatted quite a bit and in fact the one the night before was a 22 year old enroute to Wanaka, NZ from Canberra, Aust. to do a week long snowboarding mountaineering course. She had done guiding in Antarctic for her uncle who runs a guiding company and her dream is to come to Canadian Arctic (she likes snow).  So there was never any end to interesting people in hostels.
Anyway easing back to reality now - I am attaching a couple of pics of displays that were at the Canterbury Museum that had a bit of northernness to them. In fact the Caribou skin jacket apparently was made in Alaska for the Antarctic expeditions.
That's all from this side of the date line and from overseas.... see some of you later!
