Yes I made it to Rome, safely and soundly, as planned Wed. Nov. 29 at 9 p.m via special bus from Riga Central Hostel to the airport amidst NATO Summit security measures, on to Berlin and from Berlin to Rome, all on Easyjet. Saw Venice from the air at night, a special sight. Have been on the go since I got here; so much to see I have extended visit by a day but now have to move hostels, from the Alessandro to its sister Legends hostel down the street. I am in a 4 female dorm room with a bathroom in the room, a special treat... and last night there were 2 of us, and the other female left at about 5:30 am so virtually had the room to myself... Legends was fine too, altho with 6 women....I went to a concert on Thurs. night.. for the music lovers, it was I Musici Veneziani - an Opera concerto of Classics and Opera Arias by Mozart, Rossini etc. church called Chiesa di SAn Paolo Entro le Mura on Via Nazionale. website www.imusicivenziani.com. It was wonderful. I sat with a singer songwriter journalist from Spain and we had such a good time we went out for dinner after and exchanged emails. She let me listen to an M P3 recording of her music and it really was wonderful. Her website is at www.isladebuda.com. Anyway, the Colesseum, Trevi Fountain, and the Vatican (had free tour by 2 seminarians from US who give tours everyday) were the highlights of Roma. Memories also include bus and metro strike on Friday and Regionale train strike on Sun. meaning the trains I am booked on will not be running for Florence. More on that later... Prices are high here and now I really appreciate how cheap it was to live in the Baltics and Poland... It is quite warm here and people are saying it is unusual.
