Where I stayed
After an uphill climb snaking around hair-pin bends in a cramped bus, we finally arrived in quaint Shimla. The main area of the town is surrpunded by picturesque scenery where homes looked like dolls houses from above and although it was quite cloudy most of the time, it was still a beautiful place to be.
One of our days was spent going to the Monkey God Temple. We called it monkey mayhem because as we walked the steps to the temple, three monkeys catapulted themselves onto Sean desperate to find food! Luckily, he managed to get rid of the menacing monkeys - very amusing for me to witness!
Shimla was a cute town just to while away time wandering down narrow lanes with English style buildings and lined with tea stands and chaat (snack) stalls. We became regulars at one tea stand eating breakfast with the locals every morning!
At 2200 metres above sea level, Shimla's climate was much more refreshing than the humidty we had experienced so far. The climate, along wth the scenery made out time here a great introduction to life in the valleys. We also managed to arrange our Jeep tour here, so it was a good stepping stone for us to now see the real Himalayan deal!
