Alright people... this was the big one! Unfortunately, I will be writing this as briefly as possible since I am currently over a WEEK behind in my blogging! I'm going to post more pics and just do general highlights!
Day one (Sunday): we decided that the first thing we needed to do was go out and see the city, since we'd done things backwards in Munich. We went wandering around the BEAUTIFUL streets of Salzburg. Some favorite moments:
- it was sunday morning and all of the church bells started to ring at once to usher in the services. It was a surround sound, chaotic, symphony of bells and i seriously cried. SO BEAUTIFUL!!!
- drinking espresso and eating a croissant on a bench beside a busking harpist
-  Mozart’s birth home, saw the clavicord
on which he composed the Magic Flute, and his
- Lunch at a vegan organic restaurant
- Went to a string quartet concert in the
Golden Room of the Castle, right on top of the cliffs in the middle of the
city. On our way down there was a film festival in the sqaure and they were
playing an opera, so we stood in the rain under our umbrellas and watched some
opera. The musical adentures just pour in in that city!
Day 2: The hills are alive baby! Thats right, we went on our very own Sound of Music Tour!!! We got
to sing on the bus, we saw many settings from the film, including the glass
gazebo and the back of the palace where the baroness has pink lemonade and the
children fall out of the boats etc. It was just gorgeous! We also saw the
cathedral where they got married in the movie, and the park where they shot
most of do-re-mi. After the tour we sought out the festival hall (only to miss
seeing it by like 30 minutes! BOO) and then the cemetary that they hid in while
trying to escape, which coincidentially is not in the convent and is not as big
as it seems. We also walked up to see the abby, because we’d only driven past
it on our tour. Its beside the caste :) In the evening we happened upon a church
choral rehearsal and sat in for a bit listening to the lovely music, then went
out and bought some pretzles! That night we made sure to watch scenes from The
Sound of Music on youtube so we could see all the different sets we’d just seen
:)
All-in-all, we both agreed that Salzburg was an epically beautiful city and we loved every single minute of it!
