The following morning our intention was to
stay and wander around Torbole since Luisa had to return to work; however, a
sudden onslaught of rain changed our plans dramatically. I was feeling trapped
by the bad weather and the fact that our official plan was to take a night
train to Munich, but Vanessa saved the day. “Hey Leanne, do you wanna just go
spend the day in another city?” Oh wow, we’re in Europe and we get to just pick
any random (and close-ish) city to spend the day
Innsbruck, Austria, for an impromptu afternoon of sight-seeing. It was also
raining in Innsbruck, but that wasn’t the biggest deal since all we really
wanted to do was wander around for a few hours and soak up the city. We found a
beautiful park, looked in cute shops, walked along the river, and just
generally enjoyed being in Austria for the first time ever. We were a bit sad
that we were unable to see the mountains, since it was SO rainy and overcast,
but we’d seen them fairly well from the train.
Okay, speaking of the train, I would like
to mention the crazy Italian man who sat next to us. He could barely speak
English but INSISTED on talking our ear off. We heard (and mostly understood)
his life story, including how and where he met his girlfriend, how much he
loves swimming, his religious-like obsession with good Italian food, sunshine,
and heat, and his “depressione” when he lived in Austria with his girlfriend
due to the lack of all things Italian
so that if he couldn’t think of the word in English he would try Italian or
German and we would decipher using our English and French abilities. Wow did my
brain hurt! Momma mia! (seriously, he said that so many times) Anyway, i guess
you should never deprive an Italian of their Italian-ness cuz they are just
lost without it!
Next up... Munich!
