Been ages since I last logged in and a fair bit has happened in that time. And with 2 exciting trips coming up I figured it would be good to bring up you up to date before I get too backlogged!

I'm back in ED now (and rumour has it I'm there until we leave in April although I will believe that when I see it!) Whilst ED can be exhausting at times, it's good to be back! I think it is the most beneficial place for me to be from an experience and learning point especially as I'm applying for general practice soon. I worked pretty intensively for the 1st 6 weeks having done a few swaps to help some colleagues out but its paying off now as I have so few shifts this half of the term that I'm practically a part timer - and loving it! I start applying for UK jobs soon (most likely general practice) so that will involve an exam in January (fortunately in Australia) then an interview back home in February. Looking forward to seeing everyone then including my best friends new baby who is due any day! Exciting!

We have had loads of visitors lately which I really enjoy. As I said in my last blog, Wyns mum Susan and his brother Joe were visiting. Fortunately they had beautiful weather for most of their 2 weeks and I think really enjoyed themselves. Joe in particular enjoyed a sea kayaking trip with Wyn and Pete whilst Susan and I enjoyed the spring weather and fell asleep on the beach!

Since then I have also had my friend Leila to visit twice and Jen visit again once before her big trip through the outback! We got into the spirit of travelling by taking a trip to the Gold Coast to see a wildlife park and make friends with koalas and kangaroos - some pictures to follow!
Leila is a friend from my uni days who I hadn't seen for ages so when she moved to work in Brisbane, it seemed like a great opportunity for a catch up! We've had a lot of fun doing all the touristy activities in Byron like the sunday markets and the lighthouse walk. But she has yet to see dolphins (although we did spot whales) or go surfing so I'm sure she will be back soon. I am also going to visit her soon when my parents are also in Brisbane and she has kindly offered for me to stay in her amazing flat which overlooks the river and the city centre skyline - most definitely taking my camera

I'm getting more an more into my photography these days having invested in some new lenses and a quality carbon fibre tripod. So you may see some more artyfarty photos being uploaded to this blog! I'm loving my hobby but unfortunately the bank is not! But at least I should get some quality photos of my trips now!

Speaking of trips, I had a few days in Sydney visiting Jen recently. My 4th time in Sydney and there's always more to see. Wyn has also been there three times now. We both love it but its often a relief to come back to Byron after a few days of fast paced sightseeing to a slightly slower pace of life! I stayed in a hotel in a great location - it was right on the river front and a 5 minute ferry ride straight into Sydney harbour. It was also opposite the Prime ministers house and boy does she have an amazing view from her garden!
I had a few days on my own whilst Jen was working so I headed for Taronga zoo to indulge in some wildlife photography and spent some time wandering around the city centre and the harbour. Jen and I also took a trip to the Hunter Valley for some wine tasting. The area was beautiful although it was a tad disappointing that the vines weren't in full bloom yet ( a few weeks early apparently) but hey, I'll just have to go back!!! The wine tasting was great, very informative and I've picked up a few tips and learnt a bit about what I do and don't like. Whilst I'm no expert, I no longer ask for the house wine but can search a menu and choose a nicer wine. How grown up?! Who'd have thought it!

So making the most of my time off at the moment I have 2 trips planned this month. Post nights I am off to Melbourne to visit Kim and Gareth who have just moved there from the UK. I was hoping Wyn would come too but he's getting so much work at the moment - he's worried if he goes away for a week he won't get as much work the few weeks after and with our New Zealand trip on the horizon very soon he's working really hard to hit his savings target for travelling which he's really not far from now! So its just me unfortunately but I'm very much looking forward to seeing my friends and I have some other friends living there who I will try and see as well. Jen is also passing through Melbourne at the same time on her backpacking trip. So I should have a good trip. Hoping to see the Great Ocean road, Phillip Island and of course the Neighbours set! Wyn is now planning a trip there in February to see the Grand prix which is also held on Phillip Island.

The following week my parents arrive In Brisbane. We are planning a week long trip to Cairns ( 4 days in Cairns itself and 3 days in Port Douglas on the edge of the Daintree rainforest) Lots of fun stuff planned like visiting the Barrier reef and exploring the rainforest and tropical beaches. My parents then have 5 days in Byron before heading to Sydney and the Blue Mountains for their last few days. I'm looking forward to seeing them soon and hoping the good weather lasts for them!

Its back to work then for a few weeks and then Wyn and I are off on our New Zealand adventure. We are hoping to hire a camper van and tour from Auckland on North Island down to Queenstown on South Island. Lots of walking, cycling and sea kayaking planned! And of course, photography! Very excited to take my new landscape lens for a run in NZ! That'll probably be the last big adventure before we leave Byron. The plan is to leave early April and travel from Adelaide to Darwin through the outback. We'll then spend just over 2 months in SE Asia travelling from Hanoi in Vietnam to Borneo. For our last month, we may travel separately as Wyn has always dreamed of hiring a motorbike and touring the Alps. I am a tad terrified of motorbikes so I will probably head to East Africa for a few weeks to do a safari, possibly as part of a photography tour although they are very expensive so i may just join a normal intrepid tour group. We both wanted to see South America but the flights are so expensive so we may have to save our Inca trail trek for another time!

That is all for now. Lots to tell you soon I'm sure!
