As we left Galway, we made our way into some new territory, working our way North through counties Mayo and Sligo. Neither of these counties have received the recognition in our travel research that we feel they both deserve. Maybe its a good thing because they didn't seem as crowded with visitors, leaving us ample space to explore and appreciate them. They seemed to have some of the best roads we’ve been on and probably some of the most memorable and amazing scenery. We’d spend more time exploring these counties if we could and would recommend making them a high priority to check out if ever making a trip to Ireland.

Cong is located on the Republic of Irelands largest lake in County Mayo. We decided to make use of our previously purchased tent and camping gear and set up at a nearby campsite/hostel. It was a chilly and damp experience. However, it did give us the opportunity to watch the hostels nightly showing of "The Quiet Man", filmed in Cong in 1952 and the town’s main claim to fame. It stars Ireland's starlet, Maureen O’Hara and American film legend, John Wayne. Having attended some of Maureen O’Hara’s Classic Film Festival earlier this summer in Glengarrif, and neither of us having seen it before, we figured it’d be worth a watch. A few hours later we were second guessing our decision.

Quietly putting the Quiet Man back on the shelf indefinitely,
